vivo officially teases dual-screen NEX 2

The successor of the vivo NEX is on its way and the company officially teased the device on its website. Fancy renders of the phone appeared in the online store, while a promo campaign started on the company’s forum, giving one device for the lucky person.

The Vivo NEX  2 is likely to be launched on December 11, given the promo ends next Monday, while the company is planning a big announcement for its members the day after. The phone will likely have an option with 10 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, according to a Weibo user.

he vivo NEX 2 will likely be having a Snapdragon 845 chipset, massive screen-to-body AMOLED screen on the front with an under-display fingerprint scanner and heavily modified FunTouch OS.

At the launch event of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, Xiaomi had launched the Xiao AI Bluetooth Speaker Portable Edition in China. Since Nov. 19, the speaker has been available for reservations on Xiaomi mall. Over 90,000 users have reserved the new portable Bluetooth speaker from Xiaomi. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has made it available for buying with an affordable price tag of 49 Yuan. Even though it is a mini speaker, it produces impressive audio output. Since it is equipped with Xiao AI assistant, it can be controlled with voice commands.

The round-shaped Xiao AI Bluetooth Speaker Portable Edition is a lightweight device since it weighs 52 grams only. It is smaller than the Mi AI Speaker Mini which is the other compact speaker from the company.

Xiaomi claims that the size and weight of the speaker is almost same as an egg. It is so small that it can be easily fit into the pocket. There is a lanyard slit available on the speaker to carry it conveniently. The waterproof built makes it convenient to use in places where it is exposed to water.

Users of the Xiaomi AI Bluetooth Speaker Potable Edition can talk to it to get information on the weather, dollar exchange rate, control other smart devices, and so on. The AI assistant can be used by pressing the voice button on the speaker. It has an inbuilt microphone that can used for accessing Xiaomi AI assistant and for making hands-free phone calls.

With DRC dynamic compression algorithm, the portable produces undistorted sound. The speaker is equipped with small diameter large magnetic circuit design. Even though it is a compact device, it is promises strong bass performance.

The Xiao AI Bluetooth Speaker Portable Edition carries support for Bluetooth 4.2 that offers connectivity range of 10 meters. It is packed with a 480mAh battery which can be charged through the microUSB port. The battery promises a standby time of 45 days and 4 hours of continuous music playback. The device is only available in white color. There is no information on the international availability of the speaker.

MediaTek Helio P90 is a big leap in AI power: Here’s what’s new

The Helio P60 may have been Media Tek’s  most impressive chipset in a few years, delivering dedicated AI silicon in a mid-range processor. We’ve seen the P70 since then, but we’ve also received a sneak peek at the Helio P90 following a visit to the company’s HQ, and it’s looking like an exponential leap in terms of AI capabilities.

Much like the Helio P70 and P60, we see a dual-core APU returning in the Helio P90 (clocked at 624Mhz compared to the P70’s 525Mhz). But the APU is also joined by a separate, in-house AI Accelerator chip for dedicated AI tasks. All in all, the company says this setup should provide 4x better computing power and 2x better efficiency over the P60 and P70.

The chipmaker says the Helio P90 delivers 1127 GMACS of total AI computing power compared to the P60’s 280 GMACS and the Snapdragon 710’s 614 GMACS. The upgraded APU provides 320 GMACS, but the lion’s share of power comes from the AI Accelerator (807 GMACS). GMACs (or giga multiply accumulate operations per second) are often used to measure AI computing power, as multiply accumulate operations are a common type of operation in machine learning.

If that’s not enough, MediaTek also showed press a benchmark comparison, pitting the Helio P90 against the Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 845 in four neural network tests (Inception V3, MobileNet V1, ResNet-50, and ResNet-34). The results showed that the P90 emerged ahead in three out of the four tests, with the Kirin 980 winning the final test. But MediaTek reckons it can squeeze out 15 to 20 percent more performance with optimizations.

AI to bring camera enhancements

The AI additions don’t stop there, as Helio P90 has another dedicated AI chip, called a Face Detection Engine. This will deliver quicker facial detection (obviously) when taking photos, allowing for faster focusing on subjects. In fact, the company says the Face Detection Engine enables faster facial detection when taking photos than the iphone XS MAX. MediaTek has also mooted security uses for the new chip, such as better face unlock.

Additionally, the firm says the P90 will be capable of better beautification features, multiple object recognition, better automatic exposure thanks to improved environmental recognition, more real-time photo/video enhancements (such as video bokeh), and AI noise reduction.

The company will be revealing the full Helio P90 spec sheet on December 13, so check back then when we hope to have more details on horsepower and availability. One thing already seems clear, the Taiwanese chipmaker is bringing a ton of AI power to the mid-range.Let’s see this processor will come with which mobile phone.

It’s been a few month since we last heard about Microsoft’s foldable Andromeda smartphone but according to a book called “Beneath a Surface”, the tech company will surprise us with the innovative device in 2019. It gives out some interesting info regarding the hybrid’s functionality.

The book tells a story about a tablet, which when folded acts as a smartphone. But Microsoft won’t be using the regular old Windows Phone OS, which is dead for a while now. Reportedly, it will offer a full-fledged Windows experience with some minor trimming at best.

The book also talks about other devices that Microsoft is planning through 2019. Expect a new Xbox One console, Surface laptops with AMD chips instead of Intel’s, re-designed Surface Studio and a direct iPad Pro 12.9 competitor with a USB-C charging port and rounded corners of the screen.
